This review covers the seventh edition of ASMP Professional Business Practices in Photography, published in 2008.
It is not a sexy book. It will not keep you awake at night with gripping plot developments. It is however a book every serious photographer should read because it covers standard business practices of the industry that photographers need to know if they are to be successful in business. It may as well be a textbook, but it contains great lessons for everyone regardless if you shoot Fine Art or microstock. If you are serious, then you will look past its formal nature and find answers within.
From a landscape photographers perspective there are several chapters that could have be skipped, but I still suggest reading them. It is better to know more about the overall industry than not enough. You might fine value where I did not.
Do know that I will read the entire book when a new edition is published. If not reread this edition before then. I will not be quoting this book as I did Mountain Light. However there is practical knowledge on virtually every page of the book. It covers licensing, releases, accounting, etc.
This review is short, and general, but is intended as an encouragement for you to purchase, study, and learn from this book. If you are serious and haven’t read this book then correct that ASAP.
