This post is an effort to follow up on one of my earliest blog post, covering Pounding Mill Overlook. Late in 2013 I was fortunate to re-visit the general area and made a return trip to this same overlook along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Leaving from Brevard the drive in took about 40 minutes. In daylight the same drive goes quicker. Not to push things, and allow time to fully wake up, this drive went slower. The effort required to visit the overlook was much less as the road was open this time, so no hiking was required. The sunrise also fell closer to the opposite side of the visual spectrum. On my first visit the sunrise was so incredible that it still easily ranks in my Top 5 sunrises I’ve witnessed. And it highly contends for the top spot. This sunrise was less dramatic (as it would have to be), but was wonderful in its own right.
The light was softer and the skies were clearer. This allowed the early morning light to work its magic on the mountains. I’m also glad to say that my photo skills had improved since the first visit. Below are some of my favorites from that morning.
